I just installed Windows XP on two new Maxtor 250GB hard drives at RAID 0 on my Promise controller, and I'm having issues. You see, about a minute after I boot into windows, everything freezes, but not really. In other words, the mouse and keyboard are useless, but the system is still running. To test this, when the mouse and keyboard locked up, I took the USB->PS2 converter off my mouse and plugged it in a USB port, and a little bubble popped up saying found new hardware.

wtf?
 
It sounds like you might have dead ps2 headers on your mobo.

Does the usb mouse work on it?

nope, doesn't work on USB either...
 
You might want to try booting your computer out of the case with all the parts sitting on a anti static bag to make sure nothings grounding out.

An anti-static bag works because it is CONDUCTIVE.. I would advise agains ever running hardare on an anti-static bag, or even placeing hardware on top of the bag. They are only safe when the hardware is inside them. Instead run it on an anti-static work surface (if available) or some other hard non-conductive surface.
