Everything was fine...... now this....!!!

I built my computer.
I was waiting to recieve my OS.


I could get into the bios and everything. Everything looked good to go.

I go to turn on the computer this evening and ...........nothing...

it won't turn on.....nothing....

no sound, spark, put, or anything...... did my psu just go out?
it's a fortron 530watt...

When I disconnect the power to reset the psu and plug it back in. I press the switch the only thing that happens is the cpu fan barely twitches.
The psu switch is turned on and set to 110 or 115. (the other option is 230 or whatnot).

other system specs are
A64 3200+
msi k8n neo platinum
1 gig of crucial
250 gig hitachi hdd
radeon 9800 pro...


this is just discouraging....

Just to note, I've tried turning it on different ways.
I've disconnected everything from the mobo except processor (and fan) and memory. It still doesn't boot.

Sounds like the mainboard is shorting. Take everything out of the case and set it up on a non-conductive surface. The system should turn on this time.

Try taking things out and testing for a short, maybe take out the CMOS battery to reset the CMOS settings. Double check your connections, it seems unlikely things would break just sitting around waiting. Maybe someone accidently bumped your computer?

i just don't think it wouldn't work all of a sudden.....

it was working just fine (the settings or the connections haven't moved or changed).
It just seems like the psu wouldnt fire all of a sudden

I had the same thing happen while hooking up a new antec true 550, The HSF would twitch and that was it....Put the old PSU back in and it worked, so the antec was RMA'd, unfortunatly I don't have equipment to test the lines which forced me to give it up for dead.

So could be the PSU just crapped out....Are there any other PSU's that you could...er..harvest to test your system with?

no the only other one i have is from a 1 gig Tbird system.... so it doesn't have the 4 pin 12volt..... connector....

i called newegg and RMA'd the psu.... i ordered a new one. I'm going to send this one back. Hopefully this will fix it *fingers crossed*

if you're saying the psu does not turn on, test it seperately by doing the following

connect the green wire on the motherboard power cable to any of the black wires (ground)... then turn your psu on... if the fan doesnt spin, chances are, it doesnt work... if it does spin, then it might not be your psu, could be other parts

also sounds like the motherboard having short outs... set up the system outside of the case on a non-conductive surface as Elledan mentioned, preferably cardboard or any of the like
