sell 9800 pro, keep 6600gt.

[Edit:] Or see about selling both and getting a 6800gt

that would cost him 400 and would be stupid to do right now because ATI is about to put out a new card.

You dont want to end up spending more money.

and a modded x800 will be faster than a 6800 gt

Or, 350$ for the 6800gt. But whatever. The 6600gt should be fine, but if he wants a card that may last a bit longer...

Are x800's even made in agp, or did you mean 800pro?

Btw, don't know when ati's releasing 520's, but heard it was not for another few months at least. That's a bit long to wait.

Not really.

Id rather save up and wait for a few months, then get a super top of the line when it first comes out. Then get a top of the line now, which will be pretty much phazed out in a few months.,..

*shrug* Anyway, selling both I guess is a pretty bad idea, since you'd probably lose a lot of money on the 6600gt.

If he sells both he can get a x800 pro agp and mod it to an x850 with 16pipes for 279 at new egg.

That will be better than anything else for the same amount of money spent.

Or keep the 6600 and wait till new cards come out.

You can buy a x800 pro vivo and flash it to a x850 bios and open up all 16 pipes.

Yeah... do it, then have a dead card.

Those are totally different cores, so stop going around and telling everybody to flash to an X850 bios.

X850XTPE/XT/Pro = R480
X800/XL = R430
X800XTPE/XT/Pro = R420/423

X800/XL != X800XTPE/XT/Pro != X850XTPE/XT/Pro

They have the same feature set and everything, but they are different cores.

Don't flash to an X850 unless you fancy dead cards :p

Unless ATI have really changed something, what you posted is a load. When i flash modded my X800 (a good while ago i admit) the working rate was over 99%, unless they have started blcoking it, or using defective chips on the VIVOs its a pretty safe bet to get an XT out of a pro.

My X800 Pro VIVO does 550/570 @ 16pipes without any vmods.

And you do know theres a flash mod now that can be reversed. If the pipes dont work, then you flahs back to 12 pipes and your set. No dead card at all.

EDIT: To note though, to mod an X800 you flash it with an X800 XT(PE) BIOS, not an X850 bios.

No, he's right. Flashing to an x850 would kill it. Oh and you just added it to your post. So, you already know why he said it would kill the card, and you admit it's true. Yet, you're still saying what he said was a load?

Flashing it to an X850 wouldnt kill it. Worst you'd get is a blank screen and your have to do a blind flash, or use a PCI video card to flash it, but it certainly wouldnt (or shouldnt) kill it.

The clockspeed or voltage could bring it doom if the difference is high enough. But it certainly would create a massive inconvenience.

The X850 uses the same voltage AFAIK (it basicly is an R420 with native PCI-express support) and i dont think the BIOS on ATI cards can change the voltage anyway. Clockspeed could be an issue, but its nothing insanely high, worse you'd probabaly get would be messed up text (but an X850 probabaly wouldnt display anything anyway).

Don't u mean x800xt pe BIOS? Been out of the loop for a while so havent heard you could flas a x800 pro VIVO to an x850.....

If thats true can u flash an already flashed VIVO from an x800XT PE to an x850XT PE? If that makes sense of course lmao

fan boy wars  dont risk a flash and go with a 6800gt or a x800xl. if you keeping the prie down 6600gt dominates last generation

If the OP is still reading after the slew of moronic off topic posting....

Since you are running off a 6600GT and you were giving a 9800pro I doubt you have $200-$300 just laying around to spend on a top of the line card.
That plus ATI hasn't paper launched their new card yet so we haven't even started the 3 month before stock wait.

That pretty much puts the yet to be released cards out the window.

Sell both now, that should bring in about $300, then go buy a 6800GT, which just so happens to cost about $300.

My suggestion?

Both cards are great cards. Granted, they are not top-of-the-lne cards, but they will both get the job done. I suggest ignoring all the e-penis swinging, and sell the 9800Pro, keep the 6600.

Take the money you get from the 9800Pro, put it in a savings account. That way, when ATi finally releases the R520, you can sell the 6600 combine the funds, and get an awesome card.

Just my $.02 worth.

finally people got back on track

Good...

Now, to wait for the R520 and the G80...

You gonna sell that card in the FS/FT forum, ebay. or what? I'm sorta needing a better VC than my ti4400, and Decatur is only about 40 minutes away...
