EverCool heatpipe and 9800pro

Is this EverCool passive sufficient for a PowerColor 9800 Pro at stock? This machine is only used on a VERY rare occasion to play America's Army and it's surfing continuously. I just want this thing to be dead silent and the stock cooling on the card is annoying.

I already have the cooler (it was an accident when I ordered some other stuff), so if there are no objections or people who've tried it, I'm going to mount it today or tomorrow.
 
Ya know, I just looked at the installation instructions for this thing: it's going to be a project all by itself. Not fun I don't think.
 
Those passive coolers are always like that :D . My advice would be to try it. Mount it and make sure you ahve good contact with the GPU core. THen, touch it after you've gamed. If it's hot (or the game crashes), it's not enough for the card; if it's warm, it's doing its job well; if it's cool, it's realling doing its job or you messed up on the installation :p. I just don't see why it wouldnt work; most 9800 Pros come with this dinky little aluminum heatsink.
 
Passive Cooling = 9800's (all types) = Not.

The Zalman 80C-HP regular heatsink didn't help my 9800 XT a single bit, it idled at about 70*C, so I didn't play any games until I could make it idle at 60*C (aka got an active cooling heatsink).

My advice, don't get it.
 
I already have it- as I stated, it was a screw-up by SVC and they told me to keep it. I'm posting from the machine with the passive on it, so it does at least work for a short time. Is there any way to software monitor a 9800 Pro?
 
I'm pretty sure only teh 9800XT's and up had die temp monitor.

And Kraken guy... 70C is perfectly normal for GPU. Besides 9800XT makes more heat than X800 series... GPU's run fine even at 90C.
 
I used the Zalamn one on my 9800 Pro with no problems. When i got my 6800, I gave the 9800 to a friend,. and it still works, and stilll has the heatpipe.

The specs list this for the vidoe card type:
All series of GeForce 6800, GeForce FX, GeForce 4 Ti, GeForce 4 Go type.
All series of RADEON type.
