i wish i could just share my newegg wishlist, but for some reason it is not actually sharing dispite me saying it is shared. i am not going to post everything because i know there are some things that i dont need to ask.

4x HighPoint Multi-lane fan out to SATA cable Compatible with RocketRaid 2240 Model IB-1M4S
1x HighPoint RocketRAID2240 PCI-X SATA II 16-Channel Multi-Port Infiniband RAID Controller RAID 0/1/5/10 JBOD
3x SUPERMICRO CSE-M35T-1B Black 5 Bay Hot-Swapable SATA HDD Enclosure

now the question becomes, the mutli-lane looks to only support 4 drives and the stackers have 5 drives. now if need be, i will use a raid card that has 16+ drive support without multi-lane. if this is the case, i would be looking at a single card (im just uneasy using 2 cards, such as 2x HighPoint RocketRAID 2320 PCI Express x4 SATA II RAID Card RAID 0/1/5/10 JBOD). so any suggestions would be appreciated.
 
The SM enclosures just have 5 standard sata ports on the back. Thus you should be able to plug them in just fine.

 
well, the stackers have 5 connections, and the multi-lane has 4 connections, so will i be out 1 drive?
 
ok, you are getting 4 multi-lane cables, which will terminate in 16 SATA connectors.
You are getting 3 supermicro 5-in-3 enclosures, which gives you a potential 15 HDDs.

You have 16 Sata connections to your controller and 15 sata ports for the HDDs. So yes, you will need to mount that 16th drive in a different location, not in the hot-swap cage.

wow, my brain does not want to function today. for some reason my brain did not even think of being able to split the multi-lane connectors to different stackers. i have a Codegen S101, so the 16 drives on raid would not be a problem. project will call for 16x whatever sata raid drive i can afford, plus 1 or 2 hotspairs, in addition, system will have 2 other drives just for extra storage.

*doh, i think i deserve the noob award for today* :( ah well, it happens. hopefully it does not happen more often, i'll get worried then.

edit: i cant wait to do this project :)
