I'v just finished rather difficult telephone call with a NEC representative. He tried to convicne me how is wide-gamut cool and when I said he should come to a forum to actually read what do people want, he said, that it is M$ fault that he does not support full colour management. Blah, blah. It seems that this is the thinking of many likely marketing people, so wide-gamut disease is spreading :-/

Anyway, he also mentioned that EU imposes 14 % import tax on any monitor with digital input. Is it really so?
It seems that may be the cause why many monitors are actually "Made in EU", i.e. finished from imported components :)

Looking up the TARIC codes it seems like they actually still try to charge monitors that are not "With a diagonal measurement of the screen of 48,5 cm or less and with an aspect ratio of 4:3 or 5:4" as TVs.

The original excuse was that they interpret DVI is a connector for TV sets... (information technology products are supposed to be 0%,)

It's best if you call your local customs office to be sure, initially there used to be local resistance (e.g. germany), but I wouldn't get my hopes up.
(in case of the 2490 you could also try to declare it as medical equipment.. but depends on your customs office)

You also shouldn't forget that even if the 14% don't apply you'll always have to pay your countries value added tax on the monitor and shipping (15 to 25% depending on your country).

The current Dollar/Euro rate and taxes will likely turn the Dollar price directly into Euro.
