Ethernet surge protector compatibility

Do ethernet surge protectors have to be "compatible" with the internet bandwith you have? I was thinking of buying an APC P6N (https://www.amazon.com/Reeves-89405...words=apc+p6n&qid=1561602638&s=gateway&sr=8-1) but one of the reviewers mentions it wasn't compatible with his Gigabit ethernet.

Could that be a real problem?

Also don't why the listing got mixed up with coffee and colored pencils....

Sorry, this is totally outside my area of experience.

Thanks.

I've not ever used a ethernet surge protector, as my ethernet has never been directly connected to an outside line.

Usually you only need to surge your incoming connection (for most people that's coax cable, copper DSL: fiber and wireless can't surge anyway)
