Hi.

What does it mean when instead of a green color there is a solid orange color, and the other LED blinks yellow-orange at a fixed interval?

Depends on your hardware. Need more specifics.

If i were to guess I'd say that there is a problem. Either something is running at half duplex or isn't able to establish a connection at all despite there being physical hardware plugged in.

which is generally a hardware issue; first place to check would be the patch cable. Replace with a known-good

Mentioning this if it matters: I use both ethernet ports on the motherboard. Both are expressing the same LED color behaviors. Both connect to two ports on the main router. Teaming is enabled. This machine runs Windows 2008 and Windows 7, both with teaming enabled. Motherboard is a Gigabyte EP45-DS3R.

This problem seemed to occur very suddenly. Just the other day it was working fine. Today I start the machine up and both sockets express the same symptoms. I will try a different patch cable soon. (At the moment, interestingly enough, I am debugging my DD-WRT's wireless router's problems. I cannot connect via SSH or ping its IP any more. This wireless router [NOT the main router] is setup as a switch. It still does its switch duties. But the wireless SID reset to the default 'dd-wrt' and is now a public/open wifi.)
 
May want to check Bios settings then. What is the model # of the switch these are plugged into? And what is the make/model of the motherboard?

Turn that off first and go from there.

The manual should tell you what the LEDs mean. Depends on what LED colours the manufacturer selected and how they configured the NIC.

I have already reset my DD-WRT router. I've tried plugging in both ethernet cables (same ones) from the server (aka ComputerA) into my DD-WRT router, and both gave solid green lights (which is what I was looking for). I could ping it and connect VNC.

However, when I plug it into the D-Link router, it's orange and unpingable (and cannot connect via VNC).

I used http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Switch to configure my DD-WRT as a switch (before I reset this router). So I don't think I configured it incorrectly. ;o I also turned off useless services from the DD-WRT when it was acting as a switch to save as much resources as possible.

EDIT: Forgot to mention. The whole network uses Cat 5e and is 100mbit. The only 'thing' in that diagram that is even capable of gigabit is ComputerA/Server. However, when (things are working normally), ComputerA/Server is able to establish gigabit connectivity via dual-port teaming. Even if I try to use only one of the two ethernet sockets right now, it still gives orange on the main router.

Additionally, ComputerA/Server has a wireless card (too lazy to look it up, but it's a very decent and expensive one). It connects at 300Mbps. My laptop connects at 54Mbps. ;o

Why the heck would you try to use teaming in this setup? It's not going to give you any advantage, and your router doesn't support it anyway, so it's probably not even going to work at all. And wireless too connecting to the same network? No wonder things aren't working...

Nothing is wrong here aside from your wonky configuration, as far as I can tell.

Well seeing as how the network is split into two, where my laptop and the server are connected to the same box via wire, and the other half with one 100mbit cable, it makes a potential throughput of 200mbit. That would be very handy when trying to do things on the server via VNC while data is being copied off the server to the other half of the network. ;)

EDIT: Correction -- the potential throughput could be more than 200mbit. You could have ComputerB copying a file at 100mbit via the wired IP of the server, while ComputerC could be copying a file at 100mbit via the wireless IP of the server, and my laptop copying a file via wired (100mbit) and wireless IPs (54mbit) of the server. This would be a potential maximum of about 354Mbps overhead with 946Mbps of remaining combined-throughput capacity. There would be an unused throughput of 800Mbps via wired and 146Mbps via wireless.

Aye, I panicked for nothing. :(

Today I spent most of my time reconfiguring my DD-WRT router and trying to get the Linksys WMP300N wireless card to work properly in the server (which I didn't have full success with).

Before this day, both the wireless (at 270Mbps to 300Mbps) and wired connections worked fine, together. This is no different than my laptop being connected via wireless and wired either. I simply get two IPs on two unique MacIDs for one machine. :)

But meh. My problems here are solved. Thanks guys!
