etch-lighting a mirror?

So i know that people have had glass etched, side-lit the panel and then the etched areas illuminate.

I'm thinking of doing this to a mirror.

I'm making a back-bar mirror, and instead of stenciling and painting it i'm thinking of taking it to a shop, having it laser-etched and then lighting it.

The mirror is about 30x 40 inches.

thoughts?

Also - what can I use to light this? I'd like something that is low-profile that I can hid with a frame or something. Will EL strips work?
 
A bit of EL wire around the entire thing, if properly hidden, will probably work for you. That Mirror is HUGE so... I don't know how well glass will (compared to plastics) distribute the light...
