Warning: I am totally new to ESXI & Solaris!
After reading the nearly 80 page long thread on ZFS, I decided to build my own ZFS array. Here's my hardware:
So far here's what I've done successfully.
Install ESXi 4.1, install vSphere, connect to ESXi server, install Windows 2008 R2 and OpenIndiana (settings were for Solaris 10 64bit, not sure if this is right).
Open Indiana works fine if I set the hdd controller to parallel. If I change the setting to SAS, I get an infinite loop going from post mode to the beginning of loading openIndiana. I cannot load the OS, period. Same goes for Open Solaris 11.
Open Indiana will manage my ZFS array.
Does anyone know of a work around or anything else or am I completely doing something wrong? I can't seem to find a work around.

Mobo: SUPERMICRO MBD-H8SGL-F-O Info
CPU: AMD Opteron 6134 2.3ghz octo-core w/ Noctua HSF (testing 120mm and 92mm versions. 120mm blocks the 16x slot)
Ram: DDR3 RDIMM 1066 64gb (16gb x4) (all same samsung chips)
Raid Card: LSI 9211-8i flashed to IT firmware
PSU: 1kw Enermax Galaxy
Case: Silverstone TJ06
Hotswap bay: Supermicro CSE-M35T-1 (not installed yet)
EXSi drive: Samsung 470 64gb SSD (will probably put 2 or 3 VMs on this)
Storage Drives: 3x3tb Hitachi 7200RPM
Other drives: 500gb and 1000gb Samsung F3
