ESXi hardware help

Im wanting to upgrade my current esxi motherboard to something that has pass-through support.
I have an i7 920 d0 processor already(i believe this supports vt-d as long as mobo supports, correct?), so id love to look into a cheap 1366 board...
Also seeing AMD processors are rather cheap, any suggestions there?

Just to give you an idea of what i use the box for, its an all in one...
Router
Minecraft Server
Asterisk
NAS (this is why im upgrading, getting a norco 4224, m1015, and a hp sas expander)

Just wanting to try passing through the m1015...
Its just basic home use, heavy downloading and file sharing/streaming to other computers/xboxs/playstations...

I ran the all-in-one with an Asus P6T Deluxe and an i7 920 Direct I/O passthrough my m1015 with no issues. On top of that, I ran 24GB of Gskill DDR3 @ rated speeds 1600 with no issues as well. Unfortunately, the P6T is not cheap, but may find a nice used one in the FS/FT forums for a good price. It really is a great board.
 
That link has almost no value to someone looking to build a new system. None of the parts have any indication on price, availability, or even links to what they actually are.

That is a great link for going through your old hardware, but if you're looking to build a new system, it's worthless.

Speaking of useless - this ^^ post is.
Vmware doesn't maintain HCL list for whitebox hardware, the lists like the old I posted before is one of the few options to verity hardware compatibility.
Building ESXi server - getting the latest and the greatest hardware is not the smartest choice, rather that going with verified and proven options.

Btw: the list was last updated on 2011.06.29 (a bit over two months ago) -> hardly outdated

Regarding "availability, or even links to what they actually are." - google is your friend.
I didn't provided the list to give OP cooking recipe, but a useful reference list.
If you built and verified ESXi on different whitebox hardware you should help to maintain this list or list like that and not pointlessly rant on forums

a) Your guide is a generic as they come, explaining basic, but even system with support for all the features you described in your blog might be actually supported by ESXi and in fact good chunk of new hardware is not.
b) You provided only one (Dell XPS) build example - what exactly the type of ram did you get, why did you decided to ditch ECC etc? Did you feel you have no need for IPMI support?
c) and this one is the funniest yet -> you referenced to exactly same url as I did.
d) Rather than ranting first place you'd could just provide your blog post as it does contain some additional information regarding esxi Hardware compability....

a) It's generic, because most hardware works these days. There are only a few things you need to care about: Processor with various virtualization support, lots of DIMM slots, potential need server-grade NIC.
b) It's desktop hardware. That's the point. It's inexpensive.
c) Yes, with the same complaint I laid out in this thread. It's not very good for doing this type of work. And mostly, it's not even necessary anymore because any mid-high end desktop system, with the right NIC, will work.
d) It wasn't done yet. Your comment did motivate me to hurry up and finish it, so my thanks for that.
e) Haters gonna hate.
