I just upgraded from ESXi 5.0 to 5.1.0a and noticed that when i use vSphere Client to view the console of the guest VMs on ESXi server there are noticeable JPEG artifact on the screen, especially when the desktop is changing (e.g. maximized Windows Task Manager). However i did not notice any JPEG artifact before the upgrade. I can't go back to ESXi 5.0 to verify if the problem was there as well.

Has anyone experienced such effect? is there a config parameter that i need to set to pass through, say, PNG formatted console view rather than JPEG formatted?

They've introduced compression on the VM console, good thing imo it works much better over wan connections.

Deal with it, this is "feature". But i got better performance over low-speed connections after all.

Yes i can see the benefit it brings and will appreciate this "feature" if i will be viewing the console over WAN. However i currently have no use of it and i am simply asking for the possibility of turning this off if not needed.
