ESXi Build Suggestions

Hello,

I hate to beat dead horses... but I am planning a new ESXi build for a home lab that will be used for a few roles. Primarily as a ZFS storage server but also for any testing that I might be in the mood for. I have been reading quite a bit for this build and I would like it to support VT-d / IOMMU and ECC ram. The former so I can pass a raid card to a VM and the latter to ensure data integrity for a 24/7 device. I have planned out most of two builds and they are:

Intel build:
Xeon 1230 v2
ASUS P8C WS
16GB Unbuffered ECC RAM (Upgrade to 32GB as money allows)

AMD build:
FX 8320
16GB Unbuffered ECC RAM (Same deal as above)
Motherboard?

I have been having trouble finding an AMD motherboard that will suit my requirements. One thing I would like is a minimum of 3 PCI x16 slots (preferably 4) because I would like to play around with passing graphics cards through to VM's. The ASUS board fits the bill nicely on the intel side, but is there something that will work for the AMD side?

What are your impressions of these builds and which would you recommend?

I dont know about ECC ram and regular AMD motherboards.

I believe that the 970 and above chipsets(for the most part) have vt-d/IOMMU.
But they also use regular memory.
 
Does anyone have a setup with Vt-d and ECC? I would love to hear your impressions of the setup. I'm assuming ECC is a requirement for ZFS stuff, right?
 
I'm happily running ZFS with 32 GB of non-ECC RAM. Of course this is for home use only. I wouldn't dream of running non-ECC in production.
 
I'm running an x9scl-f with 32GB ECC RAM, 20 of which is passed to an OI guest (all in one.) m1015 is the HBA passed in via vt-d. Works just fine.
