Can anyone explain to me the differences between these and when you would choose to go one or the other?
 
ESX classic has a full service console VM.
ESXi has a smaller footprint but only a very limited SC for troubleshooting
vSphere is a brand name for ESX4/VC4. :)

Thanks. So, vSphere is just a new name for ESX/VC? Not a completely new product, just a new version and name?
