This may be a stupid question, but does using eSATA through a PCI card slow down anything? I am just wondering if it is worth it to buy a more expensive motherboard with it built in instead of just buying the Seagate eSATA 500GB external which comes with a PCI card. Thanks.

On one single hdd, it is not so important, but if ya ran a raid array through the eSATA, the PCI bus would limit it, but with even the fastest single discs and the Seagate 7200.10s are one of the fastest will not come close to maxing the bus, your burst speed will be limited by the bus, but burst is not that important, so IMO you are good:)

Ive been wondering about esata myself, do i have to enable AHCI to be able to use that port or is it hot pluggable by default? (on P5W-DH Deluxe)
