I've never used eSATA drives before so this may be a dumb question.

My motherboard came with an eSATA bracket that plugs into the internal SATA connectors. So I buy an eSATA enclosure and stick a Seagate 7200.10 drive in it. Will this perform the same as an internally mounted 7200.10?

Thanks

Short Answer: Yes

/Thread :)

Slightly Longer Answer: Not knowing what board you have...Say you have a MB that only supports SATA 1.5 and you have an internal and external SATA 3.0 they will auto-negotiate down to 1.5. Similarly if you have a MB that support SATA 3.0 and you forgot to remove your jumpers on your SATA 3.0 they will operate at 1.5! So always remember: If you have a board that support SATA 3.0 remember to remove that tiny limiting jumper on your SATA drive.

Gotcha, thanks man. Yeah, all of my boards support SATA 3.0 and I always remove the jumpers. I was hoping there wouldn't be a performance hit so I can add another drive to my MicroATX system which only has one internal drive bay.

Yup, should be the same speed internally and externally.

SATAII (aka 3.0) vs. SATA (aka 1.5) really is not a difference anyways as a single drive cannot fill up the bandwidth of even 1.5.

I believe 3.0 works better with hotswapping though.

Either way, you have 3.0 so dont worry about it ;)
