eSata Box slows down tranfer speeds

I hooked up a Sans Digital TR4M. All transfer speeds have dropped.
Internally i used to get from 100MBs- 130MBs
now i get 40MBs -60MBs

I powered off the box and speeds are back to normal. What is going on?
 
yes. its populated with 4x 3tb drives. performance wise, just what windows is showing

Some external boxes are limited to SATA 1.5GB - what speed does yours support? Also, what RAID mode are you running? RAID 5 will be slower than RAID 0.
 
it supports sata 2

it slows down all traffic even my internal disc to disc transfers. no raid just jbod

If it's causing the whole controller to slow down, it's likely a software problem. Personally, I'd load up a Linux LiveCD and see if the same problem occurs with an entirely different software stack.
