Hi i was wondering about ES chips(Engineering samples), i wanted to know what some are the disadvantages/advantages of using one of these chips, and are there like any major reasons one should Acquire one of these if they plan on ocing and/or if so whats the easiest/safest ways to get on.

Thanks for the time.

ES chips are loaners to anyone who does benchmarks, compatability testing, and such. They are property of Intel Corp and are not for resale.

Any reason you don't wanna get a boxed or OEM one?

Advantages:
usually have unlocked multis (through a preset range)
usually overclock exceptionally well
are a nice trophy to have

Disadvantages:
You're technically not supposed to have them and never can legally own them
Intel won't be too happy if they find out

4.2+ on air, unlocked multiplier, only 1.38v, it was ahead of its time when I had it, now 6x0's seem to hit the same #'s

Nope i was just curious about them after i saw a post talking about them....

Thanks for some of the remarks....
One more question, since you are technically not supposed to have such processors, is there anyhting wrong if you can get your hands on one(such as bidding or buying), besides if intel finds out?

The proc will never be "yours", even if you buy it. Legally, you have to think of it as using Intel property that's on loan. You likely won't get in trouble for buying one, but the person selling it can.

The best way to get them is from people you know in the biz. I have a friend, who has a friend so I can get them cheap and easy. Some of them i've seen are crushed and destroyed but there will always be a handful that works.
