I had previously installed the client using the directions provided in the guide but this morning it was not working. Microsoft updated last night (the .NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1)...maybe that broke something?

Any ways, after several failed attempts at reconfiguring, I've totally uninstalled the client and reinstalled a new one. Ran the install.bat file and it appears to be correct:
Code:
c:\FAH>install.bat
MPICH2 Process Manager, Argonne National Lab removed.
MPICH2 Process Manager, Argonne National Lab installed.
account (domain\user) [OFFICEBOX\Brian and Maria]:
password:
confirm password:
Password encrypted into the Registry.
If you see this twice, MPI is working
If you see this twice, MPI is working
Press any key to continue . . .
Had to accept two firewall options during the install batch file.

But, I can not get to the config option because the command prompt keeps coming back and the config options never display:
Code:
c:\FAH>fold -configonly

c:\FAH>

Something isn't working right and now I'm at the end of my expertiese. Any thoughts? I see that someone had mentioned just installing four of the regular clients (one for each of my cores) - is that easier, better? I just want to get back up and going again....

Thanks for your suggestions.......Brian

Sounds like you have the beta client that expired yesterday. Go to Stanford's site and download the new SMP beta. (Sorry I do not have the URL handy at the moment)

The fun never ceases....

Yes, it looks like my client had expired yesterday. It's amazing what you'll find when you actually read all of the "fine print" on the download page...it even says it will expire on 9/2!!

Any ways, uninstalled everything totally just to be safe. Reinstalled with outdated client and then replaced the executable per the instructions. Ran the "install.bat" file just fine.

However....when I run the exe file now, I only get about three or four steps into it and it shuts down. I can get as far as telling it I want a "big" file, but then Windows (Vista) throws up an error message that "FOLD.EXE HAS STOPPED WORKING". Even rebooted and replaced the exe file again...same error message.

....starting to get frustrated..... :(

Ya I gave up on the SMP client on my intel box. It was averaging 143ppd running on 2 cores on a 3.4ghz q9400 indicating something seriously wrong!! WTF. My AMD box is doing 1k ppd not bad.

video card folding is where it's at.

Teh problem is the SMP client is expired as of 2-2-09 so no fix for it but to set your clock back to 1-31-09 try that load her up and then fast foward before it loads the WU.

What can be done about this?

Help.

My machine seems to be displaying the same issues... except that mine stopped working last Saturday.

I nuked my install, and I even went into the registry and got rid of the Panda Group stuff.

I d/l a new SMP client, but nothing happens. After the installation, and the install.bat, with everything okay so far.... I cannot get the SMP client to run. A window quickly opens and closes. Anything else I can do?

Is there another SMP for Windows that I can download? This particular box was running find until last Saturday.

Yes it is located in the first post here. The brainiacs at PG didn't think to update the installer yet.
