error on windows start up

I'm a noob on computers, having an issue on windows start up. When computer is started I'm recieving an error message. I am assuming this message is from a spyware company. It reads:

Error loading C:\ProgramFiles\WildTangent\App\CDA\cdaEngine0400.dll
Specific module could not be found.

Can anyone please direct me how to correct this problem?

WildTangent is definitely spyware. So error messages stating that it can't load are a good thing :)

You should install and run adaware and spybot and have them clean your system.
 
After you scan with Spybot you should also use their immunize function.

Another thing I like to do with Spybot is to check apps that startup with the OS and delete any that look suspicous.

1. In Spybot, click "mode" on the menubar then "advanced mode"
2. Click "Tools" on the left-hand bar then "System Startup"
3. You get a list of items that autostart with windows. I delete anything that I don't think is necessary or doesn't belong. Some items may look fishy, but end up being printer driver apps or video card apps.

I had the same problem at work with someones computer. Here is what I had to do
download regseeker and spywareblaster and save these for later, dont run now!
1) Un - plug your computer from the internet
2) turn off system restore
3) delete aol or aim instant messanger ( wild tangent sometimes piggybacks that program) you can always reinstall
4) run ad-ware at start up under the advanced mode
5) run spybot search and destroy ( It sometimes picks up bits of wild tangent that are left behind , but not likley)
6) run a anti-virus scan
7 ) run regseeker and clean the registry, run it 2 or 3 times, dont worry about what you delete, this program is safe and I have never had any problems( make sure you use the " clean the registry" option) dont use " find in registry!
8) run hijack this. and block the little sucker from comming back!
9) connect to the net, update spywareblaster before enableing protection ( its much faster)
10) make sure you can get back online and then create a restore point
11) bam!!!! :D :D :D
 
Ran spybot, and detected DSO Exploit, what does this mean?
 
if you downloaded the new spybot and It keeps comming back, its a bug with spybot( I have the same problem), dont worry about it, did you get rid of wildtangent yet?
 
No, while tangent is still there and I'm getting another error message from spybot when fixing problems. I removed and reinstalled spybot with the same results. I'm also getting crushed with about:blank as a homepage, even though I have run these systems. Any more advice?
 
if you keep getting the same dso exploit message from spybot, dont worry about it, go to internet options and change home page to somthing like www.msn.com , I always use that. go to add/remove programs and see if wild tangent is there, if it is delete it, then run msconfig, see if wildtangent is running on startup, if it is delete it then reboot, clean the reg one more time and see if you can go online and it goes to msn.com, if it goes back to blank, you have have a trojan. what did adware scan show?

also, delete the file fiolder...... c/ wildtangent or c/progeams/wildtangent and clean the reg.
 
Just yesterday I was reading a thread on about:blank. Apparently it is very difficult to remove. At the end of the thread, there are detailed steps to remove it. Search the different hardforums for the thread.
 
sometimes when you remove adware/spyware you get a blank because it resets, try setting it to msn.com 1st and see if it sticks, re boot a few times. if it sticks, you are good to go

one more thing, ditch IE and get mozilla www.mozilla.org :D
 
I have seen the cookie labled trojan while running adaware-is this the same? When I run the adaware program, my homepage comes back. Usually after logging on a few times it will revert back to blank.
