hi. i have recently formated and installed windows xp with sp1. all was running smoothly till i finished installin sp2

my xp will not boot up now. it says

Error Message: Cannot Find \Windows\System32\hal.dll

it says that te file maybe currupted or missing!!! and cannot load windows xp at all!!

Boot of your XP CD, go into the recovery console, and extract hal.dl_ from (I think) CDROM\i386 to your system32 directory.

Reboot. This should fix it. However, you'll probably need to reapply SP2, as the copy of hal.dll extracted off the CD will be the completely unpatched XP version (not that I'm sure if there are many changes to hal.dll, but better safe than sorry).

The command to extract the file should be something like:
extract hal.dl_ C:\windows\system32
