Error loading operationg system.

When ever I boot up, after it post, the error " Error loading operation system" comes up. I tried the repair functions in the windows bootup disc ( functions like Fixboot, fixmbr) and still no go. After that I deleted the partition and reformatted it and reinstalled WinXP on it. The same error still comes up. Anyone got any suggestions besides the obvious " your HD is screwed, get a new one? "
 
this sounds like a problem I once had. The boot sector of a hd that I had got corrupted. There was no way to fix it, so what I had to do is install a new hd and put that one as a slave, since it was only the boot sector that was corrupted. My suggestion would be to try to use another hd to boot up and see if you can access this one as a slave.
 
I can access the HD when its hooked onto another computer.

So if the boot sector is corrupted, there is no way to fix it to make it useable as a primary drive?
 
You could try to format it and then reinstall windows from scratch.
 
I beleive that some linux distros (like Slackware) have utilities for very low level formats. Also perhas look at the Ultimate Boot Cd , which *should* have some very good tools on it, including HD manufacturer's diagnostic ultilities.
 
try goin into bios and make sure to have ur harddrive as first in ur boot order AND within the hard drive boot order itself have the drive that has ur windows on top

i had the same problem with my K8N-DL, might help
 
Tried the reformat option. Using the WInXP bootup disc I deleted the partition.. recreate and reformat to NTFS, installed windows, after the 1st reboot the same error pops up after posting.
 
So my guess is the boot sector is corrupted. I had that happen before. If it is still under warranty, use it.
 
Sadly the warranty ran out last november. Damn the one year warrantys... oh well I guess I'll just use it as a slave drive.
 
many manufacturers (I have used utilities from Maxtor and WD) that will do a low-level format (some even fix the error).

Who makes your drive?

Just remember to always have back ups of what you put there. It will not be the most reliable of drives...
