I have a new build that i bought parts for. I have everything running fine, but now i have to install windows. I put in the windows disc, go through everything, reformat my hard drive etc, then the computer reboots. After it reboots i skip loading from cd and it goes to load from the hard drive when this comes up "...error loading operating system".

I have tried three different XP discs and all have the same problem. The dvd drive is brand new and everything seems to be fine, my only guess is that its the hard drive. Has anyone else had these problems at all? Any suggestions?

maybe try going to the bios and setting the first boot device to the harddrive and if it works when its done go back and change it.

I've had this problem. It is quite possibly the hard drive. Have you done a full format (not quick format)? This could possibly be an issue. Do you have another hard drive you can use to test this?

I have used the full reformat yes. At the moment I dont have another hard drive to test it on, I might just buy another one anyways when i get enough money.

I have tried setting the first boot device to hard drive, but if you dont press anything it bypasses booting to cd in the first place and goes straight to the hard drive which makes me assume that it is the problem.

One of my friends told me that he read on forums that if you put your hard drive in the freezer for a while the info on the pallets shifts and it will work again. Has anyone heard of this at all, or is he just a crazy kid?

hrm i used to cheat booting into linux this way. By putting in an xp cdrom and bypassing the boot of the cdrom it would skip the first hard drive in the boot order. I do not know why, and have not ever figured that out. I sincerely hope this isn't what was happeneing to you :>

Is that hard drive connected to a RAID channel? If yes you may have to load a driver during the install using the F6 key. May want to run memtest on your RAM, although I would think you would get errors during the install. Won't hurt to rule it out though.

well guys I finally got it to work

i wrote zeros to the hdd and flashed the bios to tony's ocz 704-2tb then tried it again last night and it worked! thanks for the help
