Equallogic PS6000E PS4000E questions

I have just bought a PS6000E which has 16x1TB drives in it, three of which are unapproved. I also have a PS4000E chassis on the way.

Could anybody tell me please, which unapproved drives have you managed to get running in these things.

The approved drives appear to be Seagate Constellation ST31000340NS but I have seen these boxes on Ebay with 16x2TB drives and also I saw one with 16x3TB drives.

I have also seen reports that these boxes will not support anything bigger than 2TB which conflicts with what I have seen above.

Also, if anyone could supply the model of any approved drives greater then 1TB this would be appreciated.

I'm trying to work out how far I can take this thing in the future and if its actually worth it.

My understanding also is that the model only differs by the drives that are in it so in theory I could replace my SATA drives with SAS?

Also, does anyone know if the controllers are interchangable? I saw one guy mentioning seeing if he could put a 10GB controller in one of these. I belive someone else also replaced all their drives with SSD.

Any info would be appreciated.

TIA
Daz

Check out this thread here for some information on Equallogic/Dell Storage Lockins.Unfortunately, is it not just a particular model drive you need, it is a Equallogic firmware drive for many/most of their boxes, and just because your current firmware does/doesn't support third party drives, there is no guarantee the next version will or wont.
