Anyone here that works for/with Equallogics? Their support is telling me ESXi 5.0 & Dell Equalogic's currently are NOT supported.

The SAN is on the HCL on the VMware website. However, the storage vendor is iffy about the whole thing. Their response when I asked them the question about compatibility was "if you have any problems, we can try to help"..I'm just going to wait till Dell explicitly supports it.
 
Does HA work in a mixed cluster? ESX4 & ESXi 5 for example. I know there are issues with FT.
 
It should. As soon as you add a vSphere 4 host to a vCenter 5 server it gets the new HA agent. Just watch your hardware versions on the VMs.
 
If it's on the HCL, a certification was submitted for it, and it passed - that's run by the vendor. If they're being iffy though, I'd hold off- I'll check tomorrow.

Thanks everyone. Upgrade went well, I had no issues migrating to ESXi 5.0 and no issues with the Equallogic.
 
Update: It looks like there are issues with the Equallogic and MD series when using multipathing/Round-Robin. Upon startup, the ESXi host hangs on for well over an hour. Changing the policy to fixed resolves the issue.

Our NetApp 2040s did this too. Hung at the vmx_vaaip_netapp screen for about 45 minutes.

MD series is currently NOT supported with 5.0. Dell has a firmware update coming.

edit: Not certified, I should say.

Definitely an ESXi issue. From what I've been reading it's affecting multiple storage vendors. Hopefully VMware can address this.

It's not a VMware problem. Several storage vendors do not yet have certified firmwares that work with the new login/iSCSI stack in 5.0. :)

The MD series is the most well known - a firmware update for them should be out shortly to address the issue. I don't have any information on EQL at this time.
 
Hmm I guess I'm just trying to understand why those storage devices are on the Vmware HCL(especially Equallogic). I know the MD series was there but was pulled off..
