EQ2 - the biggest mistake

After hearing how l33t WoW is and how it pwnz everything, I bought the game and I am very unimpressed. The graphics are awful, and I couldn't find a better example why I hate them than the pictures posted above. These colors and combinations are hurting my eyes.

I have a high-end watercooled system that handles EQ2 very well, plus 24" widescreet LCD. I cannot convey how gorgeous EQ2 looks on my system and how well it plays. Other than pvp layer which I don't miss much, WoW is inferior in my eyes.

But that's only my take, and I post it to make sure that those reading threads like this don't get the wrong impression how WoW trumps EQ2 when in reality for many it doesn't.

Ever since both games started EQ2 was framed to be sucky game for soccer moms while WoW is supposedly the l33t alternative. This common perception is totally undeserved.

Thats the beauty of it all, choice. I choose WoW for my reasons, you choose EQ2 for yours, anything beyond that is a waste of internet bandwith.

BTW, im about ready to toss my EQ2 CE in the garbage, you want it? My WoW CE box deserves to be on my game shelf.

I have both and I'm really torn on what to devote most of my time to. I started off with EQ2 and had a blast until I started doing these level 20+ armor quests. They are mostly a pain for my 21 monk and the recent rollback didn't help. While EQ2 was down for the few days or whatever it was, I bought WoW.

I had played the game before during beta and didn't think too much of it but as I played it more I started to like it. Now, my problem with WoW is that the majority of people would rather solo than group. Nothing wrong with that except I hate soloing. I was told that most people tend to start grouping after level 20 but seeing as my priest -- which is more of a group character is only level 12 -- I'm going to have a hard time getting to 20. I hate soloing in these games.

I don't know. Now, I log into EQ2 and get sick of looking at Antonica/Thundering Steppes (and there's no way I'm starting another character right now.). I log into WoW and run around aimlessly trying to solo which I hate. Blah.

I just got invited into a guild, and that's opened up a whole new world for me. As I'm quite low level compared to the majority in the guild I've spent the last two days being offered random, great gear that no one else wants or can still use. I've been running around the world, meeting new people and ended up with some pretty fly stuff, and the crazy thing is they actually laugh at me when i try and pay them for it.

Last night I was heading into Black Burrow with a group, and when I got there I found that one of the other group members was in the guild too, so we spent the next few hours killing stuff and having a great laugh. I was sitting at the computer with tears of laughter running down my face as I ripped it out of her for eating all the honey and salmon (She's a Mystic so was a Bear for the raid) when she ran over, sat on my little gnome, looked down and shouted something about gnome dingleberries.

In another group I was laughing as a 20 Paladin with his new war horse left in a Huff because we kept insisting it was more of a fat pony really and that he should stop feeding it biscuits.

Then last night after BB I went off with the bear to Stormhold on a ridiculous mission to get a shield for my guildie. Everything was about 4-6 levels above us and we were creeping around this dungeon, sharing my invisibility spell (only works on one at a time) trying to get this shield, jumping at every little sound. Eventually I died and now some higher level members of my guild are coming over tonight to wipe the dungeon clean so I can run in and get my Spirit Shard.

I guess EQ2 is what you make it. If you want it to be a level grind as you try and get to 50 ASAP then it can be repetitive I suppose. If you are looking for entertainment for a few hours at a time, then I'm having more fun playing this that *any* other game I've ever played.

I haven't played WoW yet, because although Blizzard thought it was good for US release, we are still on Beta over here in Europe til the end of Feb - WTF??

I might think about playing wow if it didnt look like it was from the diablo era, EQ2 maybe system heavy but its gorgeous.
