Epox 8RDA3+ "0A" post code

I just recently installed a new DVD writer (nutech ddw 082), and for some reason the post LED on my Epox 8RDA3+ mother board constantly reads 0A, instead of the usual FF. Also, any time I try to do any even minor overclocking (cpu interface - aggressive, timings 2-2-11 (ram can handle it)), the board reboots and beeps once then just starts beeping with an alternating high tone-low tone, continually.

The user manual gives the following for 0A:

0Ah
1. Disable PS/2 mouse interface (optional).
2. Auto detect ports for keyboard & mouse followed by a port & interface swap (optional).
3. Reset keyboard for Winbond 977 series Super I/O chips.

Has anyone ever seen that post code or this kind of behavior?

Have you tried a different kb or mouse? Maybe try removing everything and starting over? I have that board, and sometimes it seems real touchy. Matter of fact, I'm having problems with my IDE controllers.

Or try removing the DVD writer and see what happens.
 
I tried removing the DVD writer, same problem. Tried a different keyboard, same error. The mouse is a USB mouse, so I don't think that's part of the problem. The board seems to be operating fine, just that I can't overclock it at all... it's rather disappointing.

Think I should just buy a new board?
 
it boots fine but will not overclock.


What version of the board do you have?
 
I am using 8rda3+ and I am having post code problems too. It reads 3A, which is equivalent to "reserved". But this only happens when I boot into linux. Even with the 3A post code it functions normally.
 
It's booting fine, and runs windows fine, but at rather unoptimized settings, so yes, I'm disappointed that I cannot benefit from all the money I spent on getting good ram, cooling, etc.

I have the 1.x revision of the board :(... I put some active cooling on the northbridge (Swifty MCX-159A), so the northbridge DEFINITELY is not too hot.

I'm also dual booting w/Linux, so that could be part of the reason. It shows the weird codes in windows, but while grub is waiting for me to hit a key, it displays some random post codes.
 
When using windows the post codes are fine ( FF ). They are only borked when in linux. As for overclocking, I overclock using nvidia utility.
Maybe you can try using that.
 
I have a friend with that board and heeeked out another 300mhz with it. He is very happy with it. Back the timings off on the ram and see of you can get some performance out of it. That board should support Multi adjustments as well.
 
1) his processor is locked, so it doesnt matter that it supports multi adjustments...
2)its unstable if he does ANYTHING, not just timings and stuff



i would try takin out DVD burner, downloading 8rdaVcore, boot into windows, and try ocing from there... if that works then it most likely is a bios issue...try flashing to a different bios or reflashing to the current bios :)

Aww man, The 1.x revision boards were crap OCers compared to the original 8rda boards...

The 8RDA3+ is an upgrade to the 8RDA (not the 8RDA+, don't let the name fool you!) that has onboard SATA, dual lan, and adjustable vdd. It uses the MCP southbridge, so no soundstorm audio on this one! Firewire and other goodies and handled via onboard controller chips.


I got one of the first 2.x revision of the boards that I have heard of, and it did quite well. And I have never had any wierd post codes other than when I oc'd too fast, to quickly. And the board would basically just be dead, and sit there. Until I removed the cmos battery and cleared it, and unplugged it. Only after all that would it work again, best of luck...later:)
