Enterprise Cloud Backup solution

I am on a team at my company that has been tasked with rolling out a backup solution to our users (desktop/laptop). We are looking at a cloud backup solution so that we can avoid having to roll out hardware to our various regional offices. We have been looking at solutions from Mozy, CrashPlan and Druva. They all seem pretty solid although Mozy seemed to take the longest to finish its initial backup for some of our test users.

Gartner pointed to Druva being the best overall solution and I am personally leaning towards it as I really like the management interface. Crashplan was ranked right up there as well although their pricing was a bit higher.

Anyone have production experience with any of these solutions? Thanks in advance!

Do you trust these companies with your data?

What data are you dealing with and are you legally allowed to host it on a cloud?

What happens if one of these companies disappears over night, not likley, but possible...?

Do you plan to have ANY local copies of backups.....

How long will it take to restore backups from online vs locally and can you be down or out for that time?

No experience with any from a business standpoint but why have you not considered Amazon or Microsoft cloud services?

You mentioned that you're not looking at rolling our your own hardware at various locations. However, if you're open to the idea of building something OwnCloud might be a good option. They have a free version as well as an Enterprise offering.

I looked at quite a few of these, but they would not guarantee data security for our files. Since we have data that has clearance's attached to it, we have had to keep it fully in house. Would have been nice for offsite, but since nobody will write on paper that they will do their due diligence to secure it, no go.

SmartOS is a opensolaris derivative, it is targeted for the cloud. ZFS , full data intergrity, virtualized machines with KVM,etc. Maybe you should look into it.

This is end user data; basically for files that someone might save in 'my documents' while in an airport or something; Outlook PSTs, etc.

If the company doing the backup were to burn down, it would be unfortunate and a loss certainly. I think the biggest loss would be end user Outlook PSTs.

Depending on the solution, there is an option to house some backups on premise; for example, VIPs might have a copy locally as well as in the cloud.

Restore times are pretty decent as we have a fat pipe out to the Internet.

All of the solutions we have looked at seem to have pretty solid key management and claim that by doing this type of key management, there is no way the provider could view the contents of your data. They also claim various levels of audited certification for data security such as SAS 70 Type II, PCI DSS Level 1 and ISO 27001 etc.
