A friend of mine are debating between power supplies. I told him to run an AMD 64BIT 939 Socket machine he would need atleast a 400 watt power supply. He's telling me that a 350 watt will run it. What do you guys think?

He will have a 939 socket
Gigabyte mobo
PCI Express video card
Sound Card
IDE Hard Drive
DVD Burner
1 GIG RAM

This is all stuff he plans to put in a 350 watt rig, any input? if so, thanks!

I had a similar setup a while ago (my sig is way old) and it ran. It deppends on how nice of a graphics card you wanna get. High end video cards like the 6800 ultra and X800 XT PE usualy take an extra molex conector and they usualy recomend a 400 watt psu at least. Also if hes going to have tons of fans on his case and extra lights and stuff that takes from the psu to.

But id shell out a little money and get a decent psu. That 350 watt will most likely run it but probably not at the best it can run.

difference between 350 and 400 watts in $ is tiny.
Get the best power supply you can, so as to have the most headroom for upgrades, and never be pushing things too far which could blow the PSU.
Get a decent 420w power supply from OCZ.
