i built my friend a new pc last weekend. it had the following specs:
c2d e6420
2gb apiva ddr2 800
8800gts 320mb
evga 650i
all inside of a coolermaster centurion 5 w/ window
the case has a 120mm in the front and an 80mm in the back, and the cu is cooled with an arctic cooling freezer 7 pro hsf. i was wondering if all that would be enough cooling to push his c2d to a 400mhz fsb and to also crank up the 8800 slightly while remaining extremely stable. if not, what would you guys recommend to increase cooling capacity???

Seeing as I am running my E6300 at 7x490mhz, i dont see why the E6420 cant handle 8x400. Although, I am also watercooled and with a much higher flowing case.

Wow odd that you should post this. I just pre-built my rig over the weekend and pushed my e6400 to 400fsb * 8 using the stock heat sink and even stock paste. I'm 100% sure you friend could do it with an after market heat sink.

i have that same case, but im currently running my E6600 @ 3.15 (350x9) one 80mm in the front pulling in the air, one 120mm in the rear pulling air out, the stock HSF on the CPU and GPU, but i did add a thermal right HR-05 to the north bridge with a 60mm fan. @ load my CPU runs: 60C max (80F in my room) and idle is around 36C. Vcore is 1.3628 (Ds3 board, two notches above 1.35v right now) You should not have any issues, but i would add a HSF to the MCH (north bridge) to be on the safe side. I'm currently configuring a water cooling setup, and then plan to attempt a 6x600=3600 or a 666 run lol just for fun, but i will push this setup as far as it will let me, also make sure you have some really good ram that can run at that speed. Im using G.Skill F2-6400PHU2-2GBHZ
