Enigma Project

Oh sweet, you're responsive.
I had an idea like yours, using a Gunmetal grey P182, but my theme would be chrome 'n black.
How hard was it to paint the inside of your case? Do you have any pics of you doing it?

Also, how good is the airflow with the front cover closed?

Man I have tons of questions lol, can't wait until you post more up on the blog.

Those painted heatsinks look slick, love the white fans also.

Thanks for the link to the PulseVU, could be alot of people using them after seeing yours.

Are you gaming on all 3 monitors at the same time??

@Drakan290

I love my gunmetal case and chome would look sweet in it. Interior painting was easy but I could have done a better job. First off I wanted it flat black so no clear coat, sadly easy to scratch and the side panels have already left their mark. Second since I wanted it flat I did no sanding in it. I was going to remove all plastic and get it powder coated but alas no one in my area could do it for me (or I didn't look hard enough). It took me 2 weeks to get the interior all painted. Dismantle everything and strip all plastic and then a TON of VERY light coats in all directions, flip the part and repeat. Feel free to PM me on the forum or my blog with more questions and I'd love to help you.

@tuberc

Thanks! I'm really going for as classy and clean of a look I can pull off. The funny part is my side panels will have no windows so really you guys and my blog visitors are the only people to see inside the case. I was very happy when I found the pulsevu site and I have a short list of mods that are based around them (case and accesories) and even my brother and I are going to try and run some cold cathodes off of it. As for the 3 monitors, most games do not support them (as I am not using a triple head 2 go). Flight Sim X uses all of them and World in Conflict uses 2. Their best use is to keep up a browser with info on one (for MMORPG's) and my msn, speedfan and coretemp on the other.

I expect my CPU waterloop parts early this week and have a vacation day at work waiting for me to put it all together. Kinda nervous as this is my first watercooling endevour and I've heard a many horror stories. Will update my blog once that step has been completed.

Cool dude, I think i'm going to go through with this.
Can't wait for the updates!

Thanks, I just posted some updates to the blog and I have more photos coming soon (once I find the time).

No offence to everyone out there but case windows have been done, and done, and done, and this time I just want to bask in the glory of my gun metal aluminium. Don't get me wrong, I do enjoy a nicely placed window to show off the colour scheme but one of the key goals of this build was to keep it as clean as possible. Even though I've been working on cable management, I'd prefer to keep it windowless, and maintain a sleek look rather and an open window to my parts. Besides most of my friends don't care what the inside of my computer looks like, nor do they understand why I put so much money and effort into them.:D

Now, if I were to do a window I wouldn't know where to begin with this case. Those panels are thick and I would probably end up scruffing the nice exterior too much. I know you can buy premade side panels for p182's or I would have it done in the machine shop who did my enigma logo again because they didn't leave the slightest scratch. Once it's cut, adhereing the acrylic wouldn't be hard like any other window mod.

What I would love to see more of, and plan to do myself on the next few mods, is frosted images on side windows. I'm doing a secondary slit window on the backside of my brother's case which I plan to try a vented and frosted design on.

Yeah, I was asking because it would be hard with the 3 layer design, plus I don't think it would go well with the case.

j_d3,

Respect. Your build came out really nice. You also got me inspired to mimic your lighting setup once I get done installing my WC. Your blog is really going to help me out... Thanks!

Wow, I never would have expected the heatsinks to have performed as well as they did, then again I've never painted one to see for myself. The interior color of the case looks much better. I keep wondering why manufacturers keep using that same stale color over and over again.

@EasyM3 Thanks a bunch. This is my first serious one and I'm so impressed my next case is on its way for mod #2. I hope to keep these coming and will probably just dump them to ebay when I finish (since I don't need more computers). I am designing an expanded pulse chip myself right now which will be cleaner (no soldering) so get back to me and I may be able to hook you up. Need any help post on my blog and I'll respond.

@Nightrainsrt4 I was impressed with the heatsink mod. It may be due to the fact that the paint I used for for high heat applications, but I think it also goes to show the quality of the P45 chipsets. Doubt I would have been happy doing this on an SLI chipset.
