Enhanced Inside Case VGA Cooler? (pics)

Da ever popular POS case config, housing my game rig. I want more air blow direct on the 9800Pro without a side blow hole. Here's what I come up with: a 92mm Sunon in the 3.5 cage.

Good idea? Bad? Ugly?

Took the IDE cable off to show the baybus connectors, all fans go through them. There's a big hole at the bottom of the upper cage, in case of the CD drives get hot.

Although I'm not convinced that the fan will do much for your video card I must say that your case is beautifully put together.
 
Yeah man, what kind of case is that? I really like the way it is constructed. The fan there may not be extremely effective, but I could be wrong. All in all, I think it's a good idea and looks sexy.
 
If you are handy with metal, it would be good to fabricate a duct or partial duct that directs air to the videocard. Otherwise, air will disperse more widely and it won't be quite as effective.

Just out of curiosity: weren't you the guy who flipped around his Lian-Li motherboard tray so that it was kind of like WTX?
 
It looks like a great idea. But I think you would get best results with this toy.

WIth your setup. It would really complemt it over that old P1 cooler. Other suggestion. And this is something I've resently put in a few of my cases. the two card slots covers on the two spots below the cooler. Remove them and replace them with a wire mess. I use the mess simply cause it looks cool and keeps fingers and bugs out of the case, plus with your fan blowing right over the heat sink of the VGA cooler it will work as a vent to remove unwanted hot air. You can see it in work in any high-end geForce 5 card that takes up the two slot.

Oh yea. NICE wire work. And that fan placer looks tight as shit.

But I'm a 120mm fan kinda guy, so I'd have 1 120mm instead of the 4 80mm front fans, a 120mm external fan instead of the rear 2 90mm fans, a 120mm on the cpu (held on with a bracket that was held in place under the PSU, and a fiberglass or plastic duct that goes to the rear 1.5" x 2.5" holes connected to the video card fan instake; nah, I'd just have the Artic Cooling VGA Silencer on it.

Definitely needs an external blowhole with 120mm fan - Panaflos, of course.
 
Very good job! If your really wanting to keep your video card cool look at getting one of these

I must agree that the metal shielding covering up the other stuff inside is kinda sexy...as is that fan plate...very nice work.
 
Dang, you guys are good. Yep, the cooler dosn't do much as to help OC the video card (max out 440/400 with or without the fan), only you [H]ardcore modders would know that. A duct of some kind sure would help, but I want the clean look through the windows.

Don't know what brand the case is. I picked it up in a computer show for $40. I came with 4 80mm fan holes up front, and the seller thrown in 4 fans for free. Agree that a 120mm in front would work better, actually one of the reason I did this mod was that the 4 low speed fans are too weak.

the more i see flipped motherboard trays the more it makes me want to do it. =-/
 
i know that in the lian-li pc61, a 80mm fan will fit perfectly where the floppies would normally go. not wide enough, but the height is good enough.
 
That case looks really good! Any words on how you did cable management so well? Looks like you just pushed them back behind the mobo tray, but when I do that it still doesn't look that good :(...

The case looks like a Raidmax as they are the only brand I can think of off the top of my head that has 4 80mm fan mounts up front.
 
He also ran cables behind the drive cages. I think he may have even put some cables through holes in the motherboard.

actually, a good old amd heatsink with a small copper base would be more effective than using a heatpipe for a video card.

awesome mods. makes my case look like crap
 
Another pic on the second case. The Antec PSU's "wrong location" for wiring outlet works well at this flip mod, helps me to hide most of the wiring behind the mobo tray. Also using baybus with gator clip (speaker clips) elimate all fans and linghting connectors.

Voodoo? Can I sell my paper clip hold down patent to them :D
