Metku mods did a piece on polishing an aluminum shuttle case a while back. Well they had a mirror finish when they were done.

So I bought the polish thinking I'd do the same to some aluminum. Moral of story: dont believe reviews. They said that hand polishing is going to get a mirror finish (after wetsanding up to 1200grit) when really it'll take a buffer to get a mirror finish like they did.

I even poilished up to 2000grit (220,320,400,600,800,1200,1500,2000) and my results came nowhere near theirs untill I put it under a cloth buffer.

Even then the aluminum doesn't come out nearly as clear as their pictures seem to be.

After spending $40 on two bottles of polish, I'd say you'd be better off getting a plater to chrome your part for you.

He said that he had to use a Random Orbital Sander since hand sanding didnt work, did you do that as well? Perhaps using that power tool to get a good smooth base on which to use the polish was what did the trick.

sometimes pictures can be deceiving. You can have a reflective/mirror like surface but it doesn't look very smooth at all head on.

of course i did.......but orbital sanders max out at 220-320 grit. From there on you have to do it by hand.

so ok..

i got the mirror finish with mothers wax/ polishing cream.
Now what kind of procedure do i do next to get a bad ass clear coat job on there?
I know the clear coat will fall off the aluminum plate if a paint ahesive isnt applied.
So before I gave the plate a clear coat. I sprayed BULLDOG adhesive on there. so after that i evenly coated the plate with laquer spray paint clear coat. Now the clear coat isnt quite giving the finish I expected. So do I sand the clear coat thats on there to , say maybe 1500 or 2000 grit sandpaper.
