What kind of software is used to run site like engadget, autoblog, joystiq etc.

It looks like a blog, but it has categories for stories and such.

I would like to do a page similar and use that format.

Anyone know what I could use to mimic that look or the exact software they use?

still looking for some help...maybe my question was confusing.......

does anyone know if their software is special "blog software" or just regulay web page formatted to look like a blog?
 
It's not Wordpress, but something like that can power a similar site. They probably have some custom thing built for them.

You might want to look into a content management system (CMS) such as Drupal or Joomla.

Drupal just had a major release. It powers sites such as TWiT.tv and SpreadFirefox.com. It's a great piece of software, definitely worth looking into. It works similar to a blogging software, but has many more features, and is much better for multiple users.
 
thanks for all of the help. I see on engadget site, it says they are "powered by Blogsmith". I'll check all of these out.
