I've got some credit I need to use at ewiz and was thinking of getting a new psu to replace my Neo 480.

I want one that is modular.

From their stock of psus and my price range, I've narrowed it down to the (1) Enermax Liberty 620w psu or the (2) Thermaltake Toughpower 700w psu.

I was leaning towards the Enermax psu, but have I've seen a lot of user's reviews on this psu saying that their psu died an early death. Not sure if they fixed this problem or it was just a few bad ones.

Looking for opinions on which one you would get.out of these two and/or your opinons on this.

TIA! :D

Depending on your pricerange, you might be happier with a nice Enhance unit. Server-grade power at reasonable prices.

Of the two though, Enermax.

thermaltake lies on all specs... fans are louder than they say... psu's are weak..

they are for people who come into compusa and over pay... i know i work there :)

enermax all the way. i've tired the liberty 500w and was very happy with it.

Well,

It looks like everybody likes the Enermax Liberty psu. This was my originally choice but was just worried about the comments I saw on its possible early demise. Maybe some people just got a bad batch and everything is all fixed now.

Thanks for all of your comments.

I actually have a Thermaltake Toughpower 750W up on the bench and it's doing 750W w/ no problem. It's > 80% efficient and has APFC.

It's built by Channelwell, so I expected it to perform well. But I haven't opened it up. If it's full of Fuhjyyu caps I'm going to say go with the Enermax. ;)

Thanks, then I'll be buying the Enermax later on today!

I also had thermaltake 420watts for years and never had a problem with it. So im leaning to thermaltake brand

I was looking into a TT toughpower 750 but the anti-TT crowd kind of convinced me to go the silverstone route, a SilverStone Strider ST60F 600W.
Works great, and no issues with my crossfire rig. :)

Opened up the Thermaltake and it's got Matsushita primaries and Samxon secondaries!

The 140MM fan is also quieter than the Enermax's 120MM.

The Thermaltake came out on top.

Now... that was a 750W I was playing with and not the 700W you were asking about. I haven't seen a Toughpower 700W myself.

Hmmm.... making my choices a lot harder now. :D
Thanks again!

I wouldn't quite say most, but They've got some bad units, the old sirtec's. The w00* series seems to be just a bit lower than an antec or xclio, But I'd still go with the Enermax over the Thermaltake.

We know Enermax makes a quality PSU, we know that many (most) TT PSU's are not.

Egg Sackly!!

The only good thing about the new TT models coming out is that they realized us enthusiasts hated their under powered pos psu's they'd made for so long (and charged twice what they were actually worth) and are trying really hard to please. Enermax has just simply always been quality, so it just depends, if you want to go with a company who have made shitty psu's in the past but are trying their best to fix that, go TT, if you want whats always been quality, Enermax all the way. I personally cannot stand TT stuff, and love Enermax (wifes computer has one, mine has one, if that shows anything).

Thank you. =)

I/we gave you guys (TT) the benefit of the doubt about 1yr ago, when your first, good, modern 500W PSU came out,
however since then TT continues to offer the old POS PSU's, the the unsuspecting public.

When TT stops offering "known bad" PSU's, I will reconsider.

HEY!!!

YOU!!!

I had to BUY my Toughpower 750W.

Nobody at Thermaltake would return my emails requesting a sample.

I'm half tempted to mention that in the review.

I can understand being a bit "shy" of the testing methodology since you KNOW I'm going to kick the PSU's ass, but come on.......

Damn, that's harsh.... However, I'm glad you ponied up and got one to test out. Well, maybe not since you are making my decision that much harder now. :D

Fortunately, it did very well in the testing. Which means I'll have no problem selling it. I usually get almost what I pay for a PSU when I sell them after a review (since I usually get them for cost.)

When they flunk, they'll sit in my trunk for weeks. I still have the ePower Tiger I reviewed over a year ago. That PSU sucked so bad, nobody will buy it. :D

So, jonnyGURU what PSU would YOU go for if you had a choice between the TT toughpower 750 and the silverstone ST60F if it sold for the same price?
(Trying to future-proof myself here)
