Enermax Failures

I've just returned my second dead 420 W Enermax. The first had a fan fail, the second ran for a day then failed to come on at all after I turned it off for the night. Since it's baseball season, I'm going to try a third, before I call it quits. Fortunately, Newegg does returns, but I'm starting to spend a fortune on shipping. I hope this isn't a sign the Enermax's quality is dropping.

well fan failures can happen. there seems to be a rash of them these days
(even some PCP&C have had fan failures, though from what Ive read Id assign them to a dropped palet ir shipping gorilla, I maen cracked blades? :p )

as far as the PSU failure, one is an anomoly,
and can have a root cause other than a manufacturing or component flaw
it might have taken a bullet for the mobo from a surge and blown a fuse
it might have been damaged in shipping, you could even have an intermittent short
(Ive seen dead FDD that just love to kill PSUs, actually the PSUs just need the fuse replaced most if the time)

point is its hard to draw a cause and effect relationship to overall quality without establishing a functional baseline first

good luck with the third ;)

I hope it's not a sign of QC. I don't know why the thing failed. Worked like a charm for a day and then wouldn't come back on after I had powered it down while I was away at work. The PSU smelled faintly, like something was burned, but I don't think there were any power surges, lightning strikes, etc. Fortunately, I have an Antec 350SL backup that seems to work fine.
