Enermax EGA1000EWL Problems

Hi,

I have a problem with my new Enermax EGA1000EWL DXX PSU, in that it doesn't seem to work on my new rig. The reason I bought the EGA1000EWL PSU was because I plan on upgrading to a 680i chipset motherboard and 2x8800GTX at a later date.

Current Specs:
Intel E6600
DFI Infinity 975X/G
Corsair TWIN2X2048-6400C4D
Sapphire Radeon X1950 Pro 256MB PCI-E
Soundblaster X-fi Xtreme Music
Pioneer DVR-111D
Lian-Li PC-S80B Case (modded to allow enough room for the 8800GTX)
Enermax Noisetaker 485W PSU

The computer works perfectly with the current setup above.

However, when I connect the Enermax EGA1000EWL PSU I don't even get to POST. The motherboard is getting power, light on the motherboard comes on, fans whirr, hdds spin up but nothing appears on the screen. I've connected the 24P Mainboard power to the motherboard + the 4+4P CPU +12V, in combined mode for the CPU. Also connected the Fan connector and power for the PCI-E GFX card. It's so confusing.

I've tried:
  1. Connecting the EGA1000EWL to my older P4 2.4GHz, Gigabyte GA-8KNXP, 1GB Ram, Radeon 9800Pro 256MB. I connected the 24P connector to a 24P to 20P convertor as the motherboard only has 20P. I also connected the 4P for the CPU and the power for the GFX card. It booted fine.
  2. Connecting the EGA1000EWL several times to the E6600 plus used all PCI-E 6P power for the GFX card. Nothing, just a lot of noise from the fans.
  3. I've tried an old PCI GFX card in the E6600, again it works fine with the 485W PSU but not with the EGA100EWL.
The PSU has been back to the supplier who tried is on their AMD Dual Core system, 2GB ram, raptor drives and a Radeon 1800XTX GFX card and it POSTed first time. They also tried different connectors and had no problems. The thing gets sent back to me and I get nothing, zip, nada.

It's really starting to piss me off as I've proved the PSU works myself on my old system, I've proved there is nothing wrong with the motherboard and nothing wrong with the GFX card as they all work fine with my 485W PSU (well at least in my eyes there is nothing wrong with them).

Can someone, anyone, suggest something that I may be doing wrong.

Cheers,
Ancalagon.

I've since had a response from Enermax support regarding the ticket I submitted on their website.

Here is what they asked me to do.

Please tried to boot up the system without the FDD power to the motherboard.

And here is what I responded with.

Hi Tom,

I haven't connected the FDD power to the motherboard. I've taken screenshots from your manual of what connectors I am using.

24P Mainboard: http://img201.imageshack.us/img201/1474/24pqe1.png
4+4P CPU +12V, in combined mode: http://img262.imageshack.us/img262/560/44pvj1.png
FAN RPM: http://img201.imageshack.us/img201/6840/fanrpmyf3.png

Here is a screenshot from the motherboard manual of where I'm plugging the above power connectors into.

I am positive I'm not missing anything. If I connect the same connectors from my Enermax Noisetaker 485W PSU into the motherboard it works fine.

Regards,
