Hello all,

I have a problem with brandnew Enermax 620W PSU. Currently the same system is working fine with a FSP 400W.

Here is the scenerio;

I installed the new PSU, hit the power switch. The system powered up a second and shut down. Fans spin a second then the PSU cuts the power.

What i've tried so far;

- I pulled out the peripherals fan/hd cables one by one and try to power on..
There were only cpu + zalman 7700cu and 2 sticks geil rams on the mobo. No success.
- I tried to run it by getting the mobo out of the case .(I only plugged the 20+4 pin cable to the mobo, and push the power on button on the mobo). Still same.
- Plugged it to another wall outlet in the same room. Still, 1 sec power on and then silence.
Always same, 1 second power then shut down. :(

I sent it to the local enermax tech support, they tested the psu and told me that it is working flawlessly. Also they mentioned that there may be a short circuit somewhere in my system. I've never faced a problem like this.

Here is my system :

DFI LP Ultra-D
AMD A64 3200+ with Zalman 7700cu CPU fan.
2xGeil DDRs
i dont think the rest is related with the subject since the result was the same without those.

FSP 400works, FSP 350W works, AOPEN 350W works, but this 620W dosent work.
So if PSU is not defective, what may be the problem here...is there anything that u can suggest ?

Thanks and Regards.

Have you plugged in all the power headers? You need the 24pin and the 4 pin plus the molex and the floppy.

What make enermax is it?

It's probably a Liberty.

OP, I'm having the same issue with the same motherboard, but a different power supply. PSU has APFC. Same model PSU w/o PFC works. PSU works with other boards and I've tried two of the same model.

Bypassed the APFC circuitry and the PSU works fine (fortunately the PSU has the sme AC input filtering as the non-PFC version, 1000uF caps and all.)

I then found that the problem only happens when AUX power connectors are hooked up to the board (4-pin Molex and floppy.) If I try it w/o the AUX power hooked up, board fires right up.

Copy.

@jonnyguru

what do you mean by "bypassed the APFC circuitry" how can i do it without touching the psu of course :)

I tried almost all the possibilities with connectors. And also i tried it with half-naked board (just cpu with fan and ddrs on it).

Its like a nightmare exam question.
PSU works, system works. but those two dosent work together. What is the problem :confused:

Also i noticed some messages with exact problem while i was browsing the forum, but none of them was resolved.

@Firelord

I dont know what make it is, i ll check when i go home. does it matter ?
in the end brand is enermax.

Regards.

You can't. And even if you were willing to bust open the PSU, I don't recommend the procedure.

Well, it seems that some people have the exact problem with DFI and Liberty..
still no solution though..

Yeah. It might be a DFI and Liberty problem. I'm hearing about it a bit too.

I'm glad I've kept away from DFI boards for the most part! ;)

slightly OT - my Liberty 620 just blew last night.

this is ~3 months old - was in usage 24/7.

oh well....rma time

i will attest to the liberty being part of the problem.. i hasd the EXACT same problem.. i am currently running an old enermanx 431 watt and it is workign just fine.. it kept dying with the liberty when i tried to use any 3D app..
