ok i have a chance to buy a new Energy ESW-8HG for $90 shipped. i currently have maudio av30 and a d2x sound card. i usually use my setup for music/movies and slight gaming. looking for a sub for around $100 is this a good deal? anyone have any experience with the sub they would like to share? thanks

Yes, that is probably the best sub you're going to get under $120 or so. I recommend it. You might have to set it a little low since you have the av30's but will match up good.

ok i got my sub..i cant get it to work on my d2x

is there a setting in the xonar application i need to set up? i have audio channels set to 2 channels, PCM 192khz

i got it to work when i set it to 5.1. i have the phase set at 0 but what should i have the low filter Hz to?

Your sub should work when your sound card is set to 2.1. Assuming your speakers are within 3 feet, set your crossover to 80hz

well there isnt a "2.1" setting it has audio channel which is set to 2 channels and analog out which i set to 5.1 to get the sub to work

There should be a knob on the back that you turn to where its close or slightly above where you think 80hz would be. As for 2.1, most sound cards only do stereo so you would need to use the line levels for that probably, not sure how you'd hook that upto the maudio speakers.

ok so as far as the HZ go i shoould set it to 80hz?

the knob is under the volume

You can see the 80hz at the 11 oclock position, you need it a smidge above there. Just putting it at 12 oclock would be 100hz area which wouldn't be too bad either.

still cant get the sub to work unless the xonar is set to 5.1 analog out

Yeah. 2ch = only the AV30. Because... that is the definition of 2ch. 2 speakers. The .1 of 2.1 or 5.1 is the subwoofer being added to the system. Therefore, you need to set the software to 5.1 to get the sub working because you clearly don't have a 2.1 setting.

Yeah this is a pretty annoying feature of the Xonar drivers. This means you can really use the cool virtual surround sound thing unless you give up your sub..

You could run a wire from the linout on the main speaker jack that goes to the other one and add one that goes to the sub line inputs fyi. That way you could run 2.0 and you'd get the bass from the speaker on the right. If you had the model up they have a line out from the rca's.

I really recommend getting some bookshelf speakers and gizmo amp from tweak audio city if you really want the 2.0 with a sub. It has a variable sub output jack and then stereo amplifier. It really works well.
