Is there any way we could get vB code enabled for signatures? I would like to be able to use and [size] and [color] when i'm formatting my signature. I'm able to do it on other forums but not here at Hard.

That would be so annoying, and thats why they have it, along with avatars, off. It keeps the page clean. Besides, there will always be some idiot that thinks bold, size 5, green text is cool. And it will be Comic Sans MS to add to the annoyance.

Yes we can turn it on.

No we do not want to.

If you need all those tags for your sig, odds are there was nothing there of value anyway.

I agree, I've seen alots of forums that allow al that crap along with pictures etc., and it it gets annoying having to scroll through all the sig garbage and pictures and stuff on each post. I like it nice and clean this way, so I don't think it should be turned on either.

Its says a lot about someone's attitude toward posting when they will let their signature distract from their ideas.

While i agree vB code in sigs would get annoying if uncontroled, Bit-Tech has it enabled and ive never seen a real annoying sig there. If we had access to vB code i would probly use it to make my sig smaller than it is.

Now images in sigs is REAL annoying, check out howardforums.net some time, most people have huge pics that sometimes are triple the size of what the post.

Pic sigs are a definte no. But text is ok. but i dont think that you need to change the color size or font of it.

Well, i didn't mean pics in the sigs. I just meant being able to add colors and font sizes.

I would like to be able to shrink down my sig font size. It makes it look alot better i think.

See how i have mine on nV News:

http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=33300

You can have colors to highlight certain parts of your sig that you want to stand out and a smaller font so you can fit all your rig specs into your sig without taking up half a page.

You could make it a rule that noone can put pics or use large fonts in their sig. Just the same as you have a rule for the length of the sig.

Just a tip... once Kyle says "no" and the thread is two weeks old... let it die.

Yes, it could be used carefully.
Yes, people will abuse it.
Yes, that will annoy most of us.
Yes, that will create more work for the mods.

Incidentally, Kyle has mentioned that something is in the works specifically for posting computer profiles, so that'll be resolved for everybody soon anyway.

But we don't want sigs to stand out-we want the content of your post to shine:)

Congrats, sir bumpsalot

I didn't explain what i was actually looking for in my original post and i thought i would provide an example.

If used properly i dont see how it could possibly irritate someone lol. If something like smaller font and colors irritates someone, they should probably think about getting off the computer and doing something else.

We can use colors and font sizes in our posts so i dont see a difference.

Thats cool if their working on something for posting computer profiles though.

Apparently "Yes we could. No we won't." didn't get through. I'll be honest: I'm at this forum, and not at others, because it doesn't look like it's run by a 13-year-old (nakedmidgetrunins notwithstanding). The value of the forum is not in your title, your postcount, your sig, or your rig. It's in what you post.

Sure, if used properly. They won't be, though. I love the idea of making sigs smaller. I think that'd be a fantastic default. Beyond that, though....

They're used sparingly (or at least they'd better be) in posts. Sigs can't make that claim.

Quoted for Truth

There will always be blatant signature idiots, or people who may take it too far for some people's tastes. The result: either kyle and the admins must police a massive online community, or people will begin turning off sigs. See the relevant info in mine? Many other people share good worthwile inormation in signatures. Besides, if you want to share your system specs, simply posting it in the sig should be sufficient. Or better yet, lets have a "rig" field in the member profile. There is no reason to emphasize it over the rest of the posts in the thread.

I think you guys are getting a little too emotional about this lol. A large majority of the vB based forums out there support it so its definitely not something just on sites run by 13 year olds.

The only reason i want it is because i think the smaller font looks alot better then the default size. The default size takes up too much room if you have quite a bit of info in your sig. I would also like to be able to use the and tags to emphasize certain points.

And noone ever said there was a special value in your title, postcount, sig, rig, whatever. It just gives the forum more of a flavor instead of just dull bland text.

There is nothing wrong with making your sig and title look cool to go along with your quality posts. I post more information in my posts then 90% of the people on Hard forum so i'm definitely not someone that bases value off anything other then the quality of the post.

There's too much chance for abuse. If I wanted to see 50-foot tall, red blinking text, I would shoot myself. :D

Since this has been bumped it will end with this:

(22) No active links, graphics, cussing or advertising allowed in the SIGNATURE. Sig line is limited to 10 lines total as viewed @ 800 x 600 resolution or no more that 15 words per line.

It has been this way for years and will remain this way until Kyle changes his mind, but I wouldn't hold my breath ;)
