Hi all

I've searched around a little without any luck and was just wondering if I need to enable dual channel ddr or is it already enabled? My rig is in the sig below, i have two sticks of ddr400 ram, 1x512mb and 1x256mb. When i post theres no mention of "dual channel ddr enabled" or anything like that.

cheers

EDIT
my rig is:
p4 2.8E @ 3.2ghz
abit ic7-max3
768mb ddr400 ram

You enable it in bios and you place the two pieces of ddr ram into two seperate slots mine are orange to indicate where it goes, yours may be yellow or so on ....

It will be a big differance and you will notice it.

Also, you need 2x256 or 2x512 ram sticks, you cant get dual channel with 1x512 and 1x256...must be a same type pair!

Must be the same type as in speed and size only not brand right?

Yes but, it's a good idea to get the same manufacturer so you can get a "matched pair".

Not only that, but as others have mentioned, the two sticks must be equal in size (capacity). Thus, you cannot run 1x512MB stick and 1x256MB stick together in dual-channel; that pairing will default to single-channel.

well intel is certaintly different to amd with regards to dual channel. I was able get dual channel ddr with my 256mb and 512mb sticks on my nforce2 rig.

Anyway thanks a lot guys, I'll be ordering myself another stick of 512mb soon.

cheers

It may say that in bios but its proberly no enabled

Cheers.

You need the same type of each and if its AMD judgung by the mobo, AMD doesnt need dual channel it makes up for it.

IIRC, there's a SiS chipset that lets you do dual-channel with mismatched memory, too...
