Are you referring to UEFI vs Legacy Boot mode? UEFI will allow you to use Secure Boot, which is supposed to be more secure. I know plenty of people that upgraded from Windows 7 on older systems that did not have UEFI boot as an option and have experienced no issues as a result that I am aware of.
