Emu 0404 Help Needed

I am a musician and recently bought an emu 0404 audio card for music. I plugged it into my PCI slot and installed the bundled software. Yet when I tried to listen to music or record through the Emu it did not work, the music still comes out of the original onboard sound though. I think this may stem from the fact that I am supposed to have the audiocard listed in my list of add/remove programs and i dont. I maybe completely wrong. I am a complete noob as far as computer audio installation goes. If somebody could help me with my problem i would greatly appreciate it.
 
Go to the control panel and click the sounds and audio devices icon....
Navigate to the audio page and then make your E-DSP Wave card is set to the default device. :)
