EMI crashing?

If I leave my case open, I've noticed crashing while just listening to winamp/using browser. I am clocked stabily and the ram gets no errors in memtest, so I just realized it crashes when the case has been open. It is 1.5-2ft away from my monitor. Is it EMI causing it?

I remember some settings in the BIOS for FSB something and AGP something with 0.5 and 1 % increments or something, apparantly something to do with interference, but it has drawbacks?

Well, if EMI is causing the crashes randomly, then case closed. (;) pun)

In "several" (read: more than I'll admit to....:D ) years, I've never seen a PC crash due to EMI. Not once.

In fact, there's a "susceptability" test we have to pass on the road to FCC certification for our products. The UUT (unit under test) sits in a room lined with ferrite tiles (to soak up the RF) in front of a directional antenna which is hooked up to a 250 Watt transmitter. The UUT gets "bombed" with signals swept up and down the frequency range required for the class of cert we're after. Under these circumstances, I've seen very occasional reboots (like three over the years), but every time, it was an I/O device; keyboards and mice are the worst in this regard.

FWIW - B.B.S.

Whats FWIW?

Are keyboards and mice the main sources of RF? I remember scanning over something about them and RF somewhere...

But I also didn't mention there is another monitor contributing as well, and they are both old, and I mean the oldest is ~12 years old, on the front it states something like: "Now lower radiation!"
But yes, Kb and mouse right by box as well, so I duno. I'm curious about this, but I don't have probs with a closed case so its not much of a big deal.
