Looking for an estimate on what would be a 'pretty damned good deal' on a VNX5300 with the following specs:

  • Dual Controllers and PSU's
  • 1GB iSCSI
  • 20 x 300GB 15k SAS
  • 11 x 1TB NLSAS
  • 5 x 100GB EFD
  • FAST
  • Local Protection Suite
  • Application Suite
  • Replication
  • Premium 3yr Support/Maintenance

Trying to verify for budgeting purposes. Any input would be appreciated.

Just curious, any particular reason you are looking at EMC over Dell EqualLogic or Compellent?

Not the exact same config but we paid $80k for...

4x 100gb EFD FAST Cache

Tier1 5x 100gb EFD
Tier2 25x 600gb 15k SAS
Tier3 10x 1tb 7.2k NL-SAS

Keep in mind, this included Fast Suite but Replication costs a nice amount of money so my number is going to be off by a lot.

Just reach out to EMC or a VAR to provide pricing.

Riddler, I'm trying to learn more about this area. Rough math shows tier 2 with about 15TB but tier3 with 10TB. I would have assumed each tier would have 2X or more than the one above it, but I'm sure there is some subtlety I am missing?

Due to our IOPs requirement we needed to place more of our data into Tier2 Storage. This was the SAN spec'ed for our production site.

PM me for contact info if you'd like me to verify it. Send me the quote (you can black out vendor info if you'd like...but I know what costs are) and I can tell you if it's a good deal or not.
