A few years back I got an eMachines computer. (Worst mistake in my life) I'm using the hard drive that was originally in that T1125 Emachines in the computer that I built (sig). I want to know how I can tell if the drive is 5400RPM or 7200RPM. (It is 40GBs)

thanks

Look on top of the hard drive it should have the specifications. Or if you right click on my computer > properties > hardware > Device Manager > Disk Drives > Look for the hard drive that you want and then copy what you see into Yahoo Or Google and it will tell you the make and model along with specs.

Google the model number from the top of the hard drive. that will give you what you want....

I haven't seen a eMachines yet with a 7200. Generally that model had either a maxtor or rubbergate (rubber covered seagate) 5400rpm.

eI emade ethat esame emistake ethe efirst etime etoo.

Anywho... mine wasnt one of the t series but it was a 5400 Seagate that came with mine. Rubbergate:)... love that!

Oh well at least you paid for what you got.. There are ppl out there that pay 3x what you'd pay for a top of the line pos ecrap and they got the same quality/performance u did w/ a Dell (Dell is fucking gay).

haha, that's hillarous, haven't heard anyone call them that, but have come across quite a few of those things. What was the point of the rubber anyway?!?

the eMachines machines have done a big turn around since 5 years ago... they're computers are actually half decent now.

You guys are lucky I have had worked on a dozen of so of the older Celeron's 400Mhz-500Mhz or a few with PII's. Most of them had Samsung HD's that were just POS. Had a couple with mother board problems, and floppy problems. I remember having to go to Fry's to purchase the mini power supply they used to use. But I do hear they are better now, have not worked on one in a few years. I always thought the cases were cheap and cheesy, but they have to cut corners somewhere.

The rubber was supposed to keep the vibration down.

Didn't do much.

Not very necessary nowadays, the modern Seagates are very quiet in idle. Seek noise, however, is another story ......

Heh. i have a seagate 80gb SATA and a 120gb ATA100 in my Sonata. The vibration of the CPU fan (a zalman 7000a-cu) is louder than the drives seeking.

I also have a 80gb ATA in my lanboy (AthXP-m system).

Emachines had one of the worst reps 5 yrs ago. They supposedly had a 90 day warranty on their PCs and sometimes wouldn't even live that long. Personally never bought one, but know a couple people who got 'em at Best Buy. Now I actually hear good things about them, particularly about their lappys. I think they are one of the few with an A64 lappy.

Emachines nowadays are very very good systems, for prebuilts.

They use standard components now, with one year warranties. They even have the only A64 desktop and laptop I've seen at Best Buy. But people still want to buy "name brand" (HP, Sony)

sigh...
