My M6807 runs daily at 2.0ghz with clockgen.
Emachines will have to do more than that to impress me.
They might try 1gb of PC3200 DDR.
128mb R9600 pro or R9700
17" LCD
4x DVD+-RW
Better Speakers with subwoofer
80gb 7200rpm HD
That might peak my interest.
As it stands I can easily OC my M6807 into an M6809
Emachines will have to do more than that to impress me.

let's take a reality check here. i suppose you'd want that machine you're talking about at the same price too, right? when you add in all of those things, you're talking a computer system that is going to be in the 2200-2800 price range.
does that sound like emachines to you? it doesn't to me.
do they want to do something like that? no. because other computer companies that are known for that kind of thing DO IT BETTER. if i had that much cash to spend, i'd be looking at alienware or something of that nature. but i don't, and so that's why this laptop caught my attention.
this is a consumer level laptop. it's marketed as a consumer level laptop. i guarantee that if someone on a the consumer level walked into a store and saw an emachine configured like you've mentioned at that price point, they'd laugh and walk out.
read carefully: for the money you are spending, you will not find a better computer. period. hands down. the operative words here are "for the money you are spending..."
be impressed with the spec to price ratio here. an 80 gig hard drive?!!! slow, yes. to a normal consumer...they don't care. it's a LOT of hard drive space. faster processor? to them, yes. to us...no big deal. does a regular consumer know how to overclock? do they care? do they really want to learn? nope. all of this greatness AT THE SAME PRICE!?! wow!
emachines is releasing hardware that is unbelieveable right now. nobody else is coming close. you're getting a powerful computer at a good price with better customer service.

I was halfway impressed up until the intel extreme3d.
fuck it.
Let's wait for the official release.... as this preview contains several mistakes. It was obviously copied form eMachines website when the M6807 specifications had those mistakes.
-There is NO chipset so far with integrated 9600 graphics.... not going to happen anytime soon either. If you know of such chipset, please let me know.

Even if the specifications once you take out the mistakes are in line with the true product (being the 3200+ and the 80 GB hard drive the differences with the M6807) it is not a bad machine at all, specially if the price remains the same. Heck, I could even get it and give my M6805 to my brother.
I think that everyone got spoiled by the M6805, and was expecting something like a Voodo Envy M:860.... it will happen eventualy, but I don't think it will happen in April

I would not give up the 6805/7 up yet. Did they change the way the cpu is installed? Need the hard facts before I judge. Besides you should see the benchmarks on the 6805 with the desktop A64 3200+ in it. Yes someone has already changed the CPU out and installed a desktop A64 3200+ and IT WORKS!!

I don't think J&R has a clue what they are selling. The 9600 is not avalible with shared memory. I wouldn't believe this site unless you had a machine in hand.
I'll wait till the 3600+ comes out till I change my CPU.

J&R also has the 6805 listed with 64MB of shared DDR RAM, which is obviously a typo. I think the people who bought the 6807 for the same price as the new 6809 might be a bit upset they got a bit less.
I hope Best Buy carries this one with some good rebates.
