I was looking at my production this morning, trying to see where the loss of WU might be coming from.
On seeing the "UNK" for point values in EM III, I thought it was time to update the protein file and
see if I'd got one for the Weatherman.

To my annoyance, the website www.em-dc.com would not respond. Being the snoopy type, I thought I'd do a lookup and see where the site was.
I seem to remember he is a Comcast user, so what came back from nslookup didn't make sense:

A few more contributions to the site and I'll be able to get an actual hosting IP for it. ;)

The domain is forwarded, and yes, sometimes it is swamped with folks. I'm having no problems accessing it at the moment. It is currently forwarded to my comcast web site. I have found a really good hosting company that is very reasonable and good. I have moved two of my domains over to it, and hopefully, with some help from my fellow folding contributors, a real web site instead of a forwarded one. The current one is used to host a couple of sites that I take care of... EM-DC.COM being one of them.

Anyway, no problems I'm seeing here right now. :D
 
Still "no joy" getting there, despite rebooting the firewall and checking over the system. :(

Guess I'll point the sysadmin at this. We've been having a running battle with our upstream provider over peering issues, and this may be fallout from the firefights.

Get 100's of hits a day on the site so all seems to be ok.

It's down for me too. I could host the EMIII update for a bit, if need be.

Glad you reminded me, life ran over the issue yesterday... :eek:

Odd thing is, I can get to the site it redirects to just fine (won't post the /~wx addy). It's when you use the EM-DC.com address it that just sits there forever until the no response timeout.
 
I'd say that your security settings are such that going to a forwarded site is not allowed. My settings are pretty restricted, but not that much. ;)

Just tried that in Intarweb Exploder. It still sits there, stunned at the gall of the user... ;)

"Medium" for IE, stalls after "Opening page http://www.em-dc.com..."

I prefer leaving the walls up on Opera, thankyewverramuchlike. :D

Been there, done that on three different machines and two different networks.

I've got about four - six installs today, will use em-dc.com as a test site to see if it is a system-wide problem. If it turns out so, I've got something to whack the sysadmin with... :D :eek:

Update: Our upstream provider (Aleron) indicates the site was blacklisted for violating their security rules, what they referred to as "data fishing". No other explanation given, but they removed it from the blacklist on our request. Might have been tarred with the same brush as a warez site with the same virtual IP?

I don't even know what that means. If they can't tell the difference in a legit site and one that isn't then it's their problem. Sounds like a bunch of knee-jerks to me. It's easy to spoof IP's... they are obvious proof of it.
 
I just finished doing a little research on this. The IP is being spoofed on at least one name server. Most of them go to my site. But, the spoofing site does resolve to my IP address. I have contacted Network Solutions and reported the problem and they have verified this is happening. Expect to see something resolved over the next day or two. Sorry you guys are having this issue. Easiest way to get around it is to do the direct route, http://home.comcast.net/~wxdude1/emsite

This should get you there unless they have blocked that also which is possible. Hopefully it won't be long and it will be cleared up. ;)
 
From what I've gathered, based on some overheard, rather heated phone conversations and the email I fwd'ed to you, there is a website on the same virtual IP host as em-dc.com, that is being investigated by the Feds and Earthlink. I won't pass the website, but it exists to rip off Earthlink customers by stealing personal data, aka "pfishing". Aleron's response to the threat is the Cisco "/dev/null" path through the route tables. :rolleyes:

Just a little update on this "issue" ...

Currently still unresolved. I called about it again this morning and this time I think something will happen. I don't think they understood the issue the last time I called and tried to explain the problem. This time I think the hammer will fall. What a pain in the butt! Once I told them that EarthLink had banned the IP address they really understood... LOL :eek: Stay tuned.
 
I am now redirected to your site while on Earthlink. I was first sucessfull when you released the last EMIII update, so I can't be sure when the issue was resolved. Thanks for the [H]ard work!
 
It appears that the bogus web site that was causing this issue is no longer being seen (can't be resolved). I knew from my conversation yesterday that they finally understood this time. DOH!!! Anyway, the other ISP's hopefully will un-ban the IP address and everyone will again be able to reach the site. ;)
