im going on a trip tomorrow and im taking a few electronics with me and i was wondering if the will be damaged if i put them through an x-ray machine. specificly im worried about my laptop, ps2, and my usb memory stick.

Your equipment will be fine, my laptop and other equipment have been scanned quite a few times without incident.
 
the worst that happened to me was that they required me to open up my laptop, i.e. take battery out, open ram compartment, stuff like that. nothing to major, but the x-ray equipment wont do any damage to your components.
 
yeah, x-ray baggage scanners will only damage undeveloped film. Solid state electronics are unaffected

i dont fly much, but recently its been as much as every 6 months im flying somewhere, so i know :)
 
Just ask them if it will be fine to put your laptop in the X-ray.

I was worried about it and nothing happened to it but I heard storys though.
 
Yeah, I sent my older Lappy through the x-ray machine at the airport and it survived unscathed. They always want you to power in on though to make sure it isn't a cleverly disguised bomb or anything. However, this was pre 9/11.

Speaking of airport security, after seeing the movie Man on Fire, I wonder how long it'll be before they start requiring everyone to submit to a cavity search or ask you "Has anyone put a foreign object up your rectum?"

Just got back and my tabletPC Survived the X ray machines just fine!

And Mr_Evil, could you imagine the messages playing over the PA system if that happend? "Please dont leave your baggage unattended, And please do not allow strangers to bend you over and insert anything into your rectum, Unattended rectums will be confiscated"
 
I fly back home to visit my fiance about once a month and all my electronics have been fine. Through the xray I've put my laptop, mp3 player, dig cam and my cell phone and nothing bad has happened to them.

They do make you take your laptop out of the case and put it in a bin by itself for the xray though. For your own protection make sure that you send your laptop through last right before walk through the metal detector. I saw a lady go through security and she had the same laptop as the guy in front of her, the guy accidently took her laptop instead of his own. Security was able to straighten everything out but it makes me paranoid about my stuff.
