Bethesda director and executive producer sat down for an interview following their E3 presentation, and let the world know that Elder Scrolls 6 is in "pre-production" according to a report from with VG24/7. Fans of the series can rejoice, as it will only be a couple years before there is a new game to buy 14 times.

"I would say Elder Scrolls 6 is in pre-production, and Starfield is in production. It’s a game we’ve been making for a while", Howard said. When asked if that meant that Starfield existed in a playable form somewhere, he responded "oh, yes. Absolutely. That’s a good way to say it. Starfield is playable, Elder Scrolls 6, not in that way yet."

I haven't bought skyrim VR yet. Yet.

I have played and loved every one of the bug filled messes that are TES. A few patches, a bunch of fan patches and mods and they are great.

I'll keep an eye on this.

Come Nov. 11 it'll be seven years since Skyrim. Pre-production-at this point they ought to be in final beta testing. Oh, well. . . .

That tracks. He called Starfield a next-gen experience, so I am guessing it is a PS5/Xbox Two launch title in 2020, and then TES:6 will be right behind it.

It sounds like they have been building a new engine, so to create something as interactive as they need it to be, it would make sense that it would take a while to get right (or hopefully get right).

With the success of skyrim I have a hard time believing no one bothered working on another one.

Why, when they can sell skyrim again 50 times like rg said?

Maybe they acually did a thorough internal beta test on this one? Thus the "O, no it's not playable." Haha.

I do love tes, but dang they got a deserved reputation for launching as buggy as most things beta 1 version.

Todd didn't sound absolute. ES6 likely a bit beyond the pre-production stage, but not in full production - meaning that most of the BGS team is working on Starfield, but that some of the team is working on ES6. I think that a game as large as ES doesn't go from pre-production to release within 2 years.

Another reason that Bethesda likely would not want to encourage people to think that ES6 is well into development is because they don't want to take interest and hype away from Starfield, and want to maximize sales of Starfield when it releases and not have people holding out for ES6.

Really looking forward to this (as usual for Bethesda games) though I was hoping for something set in the Aldmeri Dominion. Still, the Blades should be interesting.

Hopefully it wont be "On-line only" like FO76... with more SP attention, but i doubt it.

What he's trying to say is "We announced the game 4 years too early".

You should wait until you are 3 quarters from shipping before announcing. Problem solved with expectations or getting canned.

They might sell Skyrim over and over but they gave me the special edition. I'm happy.

Honestly, why would you make games any faster when you can focus on just a few key titles and make them exactly what you want them to be. Bethesda's turds are few and far between, this an ideal scenario for a studio.

I'm all for Bethesda taking their time making a new engine because we all know its going to power their games for the next 10-15 years.

The Elder Scrolls is a game? Feels more like a mod testing sandbox!

I’m happy to have started playing after some good mods arrived for the SE version. If the new one arrives in 2020/2021 it should be improved and worth playing by 2025!

They've been riding the TES Online money train. I think it has more players now than WOW ever did at its peak. I bet they were hoping they could just update it forever to keep everyone happy, not having to spend the money developing an entirely new single player game.

Are they FINALLY going to ditch Gamebyro / Creation Engine? Elder Scrolls (and Fallout) could really benefit from an engine that isn't well over a decade old. Gamebryo impressed the fuck outta me when Oblivion was coming out. It has been quite a while since Oblivion. I remember in those days me and my homeys were getting excited about the first generation of PCI-Express, and nVidia throwing around those three letters "SLI" which we hadn't seen used since the 3dfx days.

Yes, they said Starfield and ES6 are going to be released on next gen with a new engine.

Hopefully they enlist a little help from id again with that. They have a lot of good resources semi-internally to draw from. Maybe they don't need to grab someone else's engine outright, but at least get some consulting from their other studios.

Honestly though, Skyrim ran flawlessly on all of the systems I've run it on, so they at least were headed in the right direction. I had problems with Oblivion at launch (nothing game-breaking, but definitely annoying) but when Skyrim hit, it just ran, and ran well while looking pretty damned good for the time. Still looks decent now. That said, I'd still like them to build from the ground up, or use another engine (or parts of another one at least...)

Only problem with skyrim were retarded NPCs and bouncy objects (happened if running without FPS cap...the game engine can only handle 30-60fps it seems)

Not sure if I should be excited given how bad Skyrim was. I'm a bit TES fan and Skyrim was the worst game in the series IMO and the only one I didn't finish. I'll probably buy this one anyway but my expectations for Bethesda are like at all time low.

I could see ES6 coming out in 2021, so they can do "10 years later" marketing from Skyrim's release date.

I liked Oblivion a lot better than Skyrim, though Skyrim had certain elements that I liked a little better. I'm afraid I never got into Morrowind which is unfortunate. It didn't grab me when I first played it, and I had so many other games during that time period that I never really caught back up with it. I've always been more of an Ultima guy where western RPGs are concerned. Oblivion came around at the right time for me. I'm aware that Morrowind is likely the better game though.

True. There are definitely those aspects. It was definitely more stable, and better performing overall, but I agree the physics etc. needed work. They've also been improving a bit, but still need to work on their humanoid models a bit more, and skeletal animation...

I dont doubt it will be an awesome and amazing world to explore - provided they dont continue the dumbing down of the character mechanics and work to eliminate at least a few bugs before launch - for once - I am betting the world will be amazingly good looking.
